If building houses for your inhabitants isn't enough in SimCity BuildIt, you also have to build parks to keep them happy, shops so they can get what they need, power sources so they can have electricity, and water tanks so they can shower, among many other things.
You'll have to plan your city with care, because your citizens won't like to live near factories, for example. The only requirement when placing a building is that it be connected by roads. I understand their reasoning behind naming it Simcity but they have to understand the name Simcity has some baggage they're going to have to deal with if they want to use the previous Simcity's communities to market their new product to.Īnd honestly, just like SimCity Societies, if it weren't for those three things I would most likely buy it and enjoy it for what it is even though they're tossing out so many features I like. If they want to avoid that, really the only way I can think of it is to change the moniker of the game to something else or something that better describes what the game is. And since this is a very active Simcity site and many members of the smaller sites visit here as well, I think the comparison would be inevitable on a scale much larger than just one website. Simtropolis tries to be game agnostic but in reality this is primarily a Simcity 4 community. I think this had more to do with the fact that both EA/Tilted Mills/Maxis and Monte Cristo came here to market their games.

That game was constantly compared to SC4, in fact it was compared to SC4 more than it was compared to the previous title in its own series (City Life). Thing is these are things the industry as a whole are considering and moving towards and while as a developer they are great ideas for many reasons, as a consumer they are to me right up there with SOPA on bad internet ideas.Įven if it was a new title with no history people would compare it to SC4. Thing is there are three things I won't roll with: Always online, cloud computing and social systems a la facebook. For the most part I'm willing to consider this in the same light, an experiment. Not the best game, but a interesting experiment at least. For example, I thought Simcity Societies was an interesting idea. Heck, I'm willing to judge a game on it's own merits.
We could do that if they wouldn't call it Sim City, since it's called that it suggests to me that they want to continue the franchise, therefore we can't ignore the past games.Īnd this game is going to be judged by the past games because of it's name, no way around that, unless they call it something else. I wish everyone could just forget the old SimCity, and think of this game as a completely new Title, with no history.
